Professional work, exceptional people, and fantastic customer service! They took a 4 yr fence that had mold and mildew in many areas and cleaned it first, then stained it a few days later. It came out lovely and we get so many compliments from neighbors!!

Superior Stain Solutions did a fabulous job including pressure washing our 2 covered porches days before applying the stain several days later. They completed both porches in one day that included removing the gutters in the process. I love the color I selected as shown with the before and after photos. Straight talk on the 2 to 6 year re-stain cycle. We use Expert Stain and Seal and Sherwin-Williams penetrating oil products because they hold up in this climate.
Refinishing a deck means taking it back to wood that will hold stain again. A deck that only greyed gets a soft wash and a brightener. A deck with a peeling film from an old solid stain or a paint job gets that film stripped or sanded off first, because new stain will not bond to a finish that is letting go.
Traffic lanes get sanded smooth. Then the deck dries, we meter it, and it gets a penetrating oil on the floor, rails, and stairs as one color.

Often, yes. Grey is surface damage, not always dead wood.
A wash and a brightener bring a lot of ten-year fences and decks back to a color that takes stain. Checking and small cracks are normal in outdoor wood and do not stop a restoration.
Boards that are soft, punky, or broken cannot be saved with stain. That is a job for a fence or deck builder first, and we stain the new boards to blend with the rest. We tell you at the estimate which boards are which, before you get a price.
Day one is the wash: cleaner, brightener, rinse. Then the wood dries, usually a day or two in good weather, and we meter it before any stain goes on.

There is no calendar wait. We check moisture at the estimate. Oil-based stain wants wood under 13%. Waiting a year "to dry" is how boards grey, cup, and crack.
Usually every 2 to 6 years depending on the stain, its opacity, the sun, and whether anyone maintains it. Around Greenville, Spartanburg, Greer, and Duncan we often see 3 to 4 years on fences. Decks can need attention sooner.
If it has started to grey, weather, or mold, yes. We soft-wash aged wood before stain so the finish lasts. The wash is in the quote, not sprung on you later.
For most wood fences here, oil-based stain is the better call. It soaks in instead of sitting as a film, so it is less likely to peel and crack in our sun and humidity.
