Professional work, exceptional people, and fantastic customer service! They took a 4 yr fence that had mold and mildew in many areas and cleaned it first, then stained it a few days later. It came out lovely and we get so many compliments from neighbors!!
We got our fence and deck stained. They were able to do it in one day. Adrian was able to give us a great affordable quote. The stain looks great! Highly recommend them.

The details
Pergola and porch staining, in detail
Superior Stain Solutions did a fabulous job including pressure washing our 2 covered porches days before applying the stain several days later. They completed both porches in one day that included removing the gutters in the process. I love the color I selected as shown with the before and after photos. I highly recommend them if you have a fence, deck or a porch project needing professionals!
01 What pergola and porch staining includes
A pergola has far more wood than its footprint suggests: the top, bottom, and sides of every beam and rafter, plus the posts. Most of it sits overhead in full sun, so it greys and checks faster than the fence beside it. We stain all of it, including the parts you only see from underneath, and we protect the patio, the house, and the plants below while we work.
- Every beam, rafter, post, and lattice face, not just what you see from the yard
- Matched to the fence, deck, or porch it sits beside
- Patio, siding, and plants covered while we work
- Moisture check first, flat-rate quote in writing
02 Step by step, in detail
- We look at all of it. We measure the real surface, not the footprint: tops and bottoms of beams, rafters, posts, and any lattice. We check moisture and what is on the wood now.
- We wash and protect. Greyed or mildewed wood gets a soft wash and time to dry. The patio, siding, and plants under the work get covered before any stain goes up.
- We stain every face. Penetrating oil stain on every beam, rafter, and post, worked into the joints and end grain where overhead wood fails first.
How do you price a pergola?
By the wood we actually stain, not the footprint. A pergola has the top, bottom, and sides of every beam and rafter, plus the posts and any lattice, so it carries much more surface than the patio under it. Height and how hard it is to reach also count. We measure and give you one flat number in writing.
Can you match the pergola to our fence or deck?
Yes. We bring samples to the estimate and brush them onto your wood. If the fence or deck already has a color, we match it so everything reads as one project.
Our pergola is over a patio next to the house. How do you keep stain off everything?
We cover the patio, the siding, the furniture you leave out, and the plants under the work before any stain goes up. Overhead work drips if you rush it, so we back-brush and work in sections.
Do you stain porch ceilings and porch posts?
Yes. Tongue-and-groove porch ceilings, beams, posts, and rails. Ceilings are priced by the square foot, with beams, light fixtures, and fans counted separately, so you see what moves the number.
How often does a pergola need stain?
Overhead wood takes the most sun on the property, so it usually needs attention a little sooner than the fence beside it. Plan on every few years, sooner on the tops of the rafters. A penetrating oil wears down instead of peeling, so the next coat is a wash and a coat, not a strip job.
Can you stain a new pergola right after it is built?
Once the wood is dry enough. New pressure-treated lumber is wet, so we meter it and stain when it reads under 13%. Cedar is usually ready sooner. We tell you at the estimate.
